Three things you can do to survive the Xmas and New Year Party season!

It’s so easy to over indulge over this time of year, so I am going to give you three really simple tips, so you don’t tip yourself off the edge this silly season.

  1. Get out your diary and map out your Xmas parties, lunches, dinners or breakfasts or   Then count them up per week.

If you are eating one meal three times per day there are 21 meals in a week for you.  If you have a function on once or twice a week for the next few weeks, then that’s only 1-2 meals or outings that are not your regular habitual eating.  That makes 19 meals are ‘normal’  Should you be super social you maybe something on every day then you still have 2/3rds of the time (14 meals) that you can eat and be nourished well. So make a conscious effort to do this and you may be pleasantly surprised that you have the opportunity to eat really well and party well too!

  1. This brings me two my second point. How best to eat well for the other meals?  Quite often if your Xmas party is in the evening, you are met with a drink to get the night rolling.  For those of us who need to work the next day, or there may be too many social engagements to get through or you’re really want to take care of your bodies, then these tips are for you.

Take the first opportunity to get a protein snack. Before you drink would be even better, but if that is not an option then this could be a protein laden horderves, some cheese or if you are super organised you can take a few almonds in your handbag to munch on before you arrive or discretely at the venue.  The reason you have some protein before that sugar laden drink goes it is to signal your pancreas to start up the hormone glucagon.  Glucagon release lowers the insulin release which is what happens when you give your body a kick of sugar from wine, beer or champers.  It also you wanting to eat a whole lot of food later in the night and will help with supports fat burning, which is great before we get into our bikini this summer.

  1. My last tip is simple but not many people do it. Drink your water.  I really can’t say this enough.  As boring as it is, please, please, please, drink your water.  We make two litres of stomach acid per day so you can break down your food.  We have 15 litres of lymphatic fluid circulating our body.  Our cells work best in the right pH which, once again is fluid both inside and outside of the cell.  We need good amounts of fluid in our bowel to ensure we have comfortable and easily released waste matter.  So function well, good hydration helps your body move with less pain, feel comfortable around the belly, think clearly and is basically essential for great health.

Last but not least, the bonus tip is to have a great time!
